Allan Small biofilter and stormwater harvesting includes an innovative design that aims to maximise the overall performance of the system. This includes using a sand based filter media rather than sandy loam, and a combination of saturated zones and infiltration areas. This way vegetation is sustained during dry periods while the system allows infiltration of stormwater to the surrounding soil which minimises runoff frequency and maximises volumetric reduction of stormwater. The system further reduces runoff volumes and frequencies by reusing treated water for irrigation of a nearby sports field.
